Last night (Saturday), blink-182 played at Hartford, Connecticut, which was to be one of their hardest performances for them to get through to date, due to only losing a good friend of theirs the night before, Adam Goldstein.
Mark Hoppus, still chocked at the previous days events said to the crowd, “This night is really hard for us onstage. We lost a dear friend yesterday. His name was Adam Goldstein. You probably know him as DJ AM. He was an innovator and a genius and he loved music more than anything else. Above all he was a very dear friend.”
Mark then requested from the crowd a moments silence and the lights to be dimmed. ’182 then played Down in dedication to Goldstein’s memory. In their voices alone, you could hear this was a very hard night for them to get through.
Travis, before the show at Hartford, Connecticut simply had this to say on Twitter, “Don’t know how i am gonna play 2night but i am for AM. My brother is gone.i love u and miss u, i’ll never forget all the good times we had.“… “I’ll never forget everything we’ve been thru and every time i play the drums i’ll think of you. U were an amazing friend/DJ/human being.“…”Rest In Peace my brother, this really f—s me up.” – Travis Barker & DJ AM only survived a plane crash that killed 4 (2 of which were Travis Barker’s friends & associates) just less than 12 months ago.
Tributes and people paying their respects to Adam have come in far & wide. The Palms in Las Vegas, where DJ:AM was suppose to play a few nights ago in their Rain Nightclub paid respects by showing only the letters ‘A’ & ‘M’ which could be seen from the exterior lighting of the hotel/casino. Palms owner George Maloof also said, “…we considered him a friend and a great artist. He will trully be missed.”
Taboo from the Black Eyed Peas said to MTV, “He’s been a good friend of ours, our prayers go out to his family. We’ll miss him.” While Fergie adds, “He’s been so talented and always such a cool, good spirited person. There wasn’t a mean bone in that guys body. And it’s just really sad.”
Mark Hoppus, “We miss you, Adam. Make the angels dance. Send our love to Littte Chris and Jerry Finn. You were all called home too soon.”
